It can be hard to find the right dog breed for your family. There are so many choices and so many wonderful breeds out there!

Mini goldendoodles aren't for everybody. Here's what you need to know...

The mini Goldendoodle is a great choice for many families. It’s a popular breed, though not a purebred. It has a gorgeous fluffy face that makes it look like a real-life teddy bear.

It’s a designer breed that will be a great asset to your family. But who should be getting one, and who shouldn’t? Let’s take a look!

Miniature Goldendoodles: What Are They?

First, let’s discuss what a normal goldendoodle is. These dogs are a mixture between a golden retriever and a poodle. A mini goldendoodle on the other hand, is a mixture between the golden retriever and the mini poodle, also known as a toy poodle.

There are a number of reasons why these dogs are so popular. First of all, these dogs are hypoallergenic, and they don’t shed a lot. In fact, some of these dogs don’t actually shed at all.

It is a good idea to remember, though, that it’s simply not possible for a dog breed to be completely hypoallergenic and non-shedding.

With that in mind, though, you will find that a mini goldendoodle sheds far less than a golden retriever does, making it a great choice for people that have allergies.

Mini Goldendoodle Types

Here’s a little experiment. Google mini goldendoodle and see what comes up. You’ll probably be a little confused, seeing words like F1, F1B, first-generation, and more to describe different types of these dogs.

No, your dog isn’t about to become a Formula 1 Driver. These words refer to different generations of Mini goldendoodle breeds. Here’s what you need to know.

F1 Mini Goldendoodle

No, your goldendoodle is not about to get into a race car. Instead, an F1 mini goldendoodle is actually a golden retriever bred with a totally purebred mini poodle. As such, they’re part retriever and half poodle.

F1B Mini goldendoodle

These doodles are born when the mini goldendoodle breeds with a mini poodle. As such, they’re 75% mini poodles. This is handy for people with allergies since it means that they’re even less likely to shed.

F2 Mini goldendoodle

These adorable puppies are born when you breed two mini goldendoodles together.

F2b Mini goldendoodle

These goldendoodles are born when F1 mini goldendoodles are bred with F1B mini goldendoodles.

How Large Can Mini Goldendoodles Grow?

These pups can usually grow to around 15 to 35 pounds. This would make them roughly medium-sized, which is ideal if you’re not looking to have a very large dog.

They may grow to as little as 13 inches or as large as 30 inches. They can vary in size depending on how large the poodle is, however.

It’s worth noting that all dogs are unique, meaning that they are going to differ in terms of how large they grow. It can depend on the weight and height of both of the parents.

If you would prefer to get a larger dog, though, it’s often best to go with a normal goldendoodle rather than opting for its miniature equivalent.

What Kind of Temperament Does a Mini Goldendoodle Have?

Mini goldendoodles

A lot of people will choose a dog based on the temperament of the breed. As such, it’s a good idea to figure out what kind of temperament a mini goldendoodle has.

These dogs are fantastic family pets! They’re incredibly friendly and just want to make their owners happy.

They’re also rather gentle and love to play, thanks to the mini poodle in them. These dogs are super smart, too, so you can have fun teaching your dog all kinds of new tricks.

Of course, that intelligence comes with one big problem. Mini goldendoodles can be mischievous, so you’ll want to ensure that you keep an eye on them.

Both the golden retriever and the toy poodle are very warm and loving dogs.

They adore getting plenty of attention from the people and pets in their pack. You may find that you get a little shadow, too, since these dogs love to stay near to their human leaders.

The intelligence of a mini goldendoodle comes from its parents – the golden retriever and the mini poodle. It’s only natural that the mini goldendoodle is smart in turn.

Thanks to this, you shouldn’t have a difficult time trying to train a mini goldendoodle.

In addition to this, golden retrievers and poodles are rather sociable. Because of this, the mini goldendoodle is also rather sociable.

They get along great with other animals and dogs in the house as a result of this, which is ideal if you have a lot of pets already.

So, what about energy? Mini goldendoodles aren’t super energetic, but they do like to play. They have a roughly moderate level of energy and tend to need roughly 30 minutes of exercise each day.

Of course, every dog has its own individual needs, so this may vary depending on the dog in question.

The information listed above is a guideline, however. The temperament of a dog will always depend in part on the way that the dog is raised.

It depends on how well the dog is trained and how well it is socialized.

As such, it’s always a good idea to do your research into different training methods and different ways to socialize your dog. This will help to ensure that your pooch has a happy, healthy life.

Will My Mini Goldendoodle Be Okay With Children?

These dogs are well known for their friendly nature, and their loyalty is unparalleled. As such, you need not worry if you are introducing a mini goldendoodle to children. These dogs are practically the perfect pet for young families and children.

One of the greatest things about mini goldendoodles is just how much they enjoy playing. This is great for young children who are full of energy.

This may seem somewhat obvious to say, though, but you should be very careful when allowing your children to play around a dog.

Make sure that you don’t leave your dog and your child unattended, and teach your little ones how they should be acting around a dog. This will help to ensure that both your pet and your children are happy.

What Kind of Coat Will My Mini Goldendoodle Have?

This largely depends on the age of the dog and a few other things. You will usually find that a pup has a super fluffy coat, but this may differ as your dog gets older.

It ultimately depends on how much of each parent the dog inherited. Some mini goldendoodles have a coat like a poodle that is very curly, or it may have inherited the coat of the golden retriever parent, in which case the coat will be straight.

In some circumstances, your dog’s coat could be a mixture of both and be very curly!

You can’t fully tell what kind of coat your mini goldendoodle is going to have until it reaches adulthood.

It’s important to ensure that you properly care for your mini goldendoodle’s coat. They don’t shed a lot, meaning it will be important to brush them a lot and comb through their fur on a regular basis.

It may take longer to do so in order to ensure that the coat doesn’t tangle or knot. You should brush the coat once a day at the minimum.

You can also get these dogs in a wide variety of different colors based on the colors of the parents. For instance, a golden retriever can be a beautiful golden blonde, dark gold, or a light cream sort of color.

Poodles, on the other hand, come in various other colors such as apricot, black, tan, cream, red or brown.

You will most often find miniature goldendoodles that are cream or golden in color. There are some dogs that are white, red, grey, black, or a variety of colors, however!

Health Concerns

Nobody likes to think about their pooch suffering, but it’s always important to consider the health concerns that you may have to deal with for a specific breed of dog.

Since mini goldendoodles are a mix between retrievers and mini poodles, it is unsurprising that mini goldendoodles can deal with many of the same issues as their parents. For instance:

  • Hip Dysplasia – These dogs can sometimes deal with bad pain in the joints
  • CancerGolden retrievers have a high risk of developing cancer, perhaps a higher risk than all other breeds of dog
  • Dental Issues – miniature poodles are prone to getting dental-related problems, making it extremely important that you make an effort to keep their teeth in good condition.

If you have any other questions or concerns, you should check with the breeder or a veterinarian – this isn’t the entire list, just a general overview.

Cost and Location

You can usually get a mini goldendoodle puppy for around $1500 – $3000, though this largely depends on where you are, parent pedigree, and various other factors.

You can usually find mini goldendoodle puppies sold by reputable breeders. It’s best to be cautious when finding dogs on online marketplaces. It’s even possible to adopt these dogs from adoption agencies!

Conclusion

Mini goldendoodles are fantastic dogs for a wide variety of people. Still, it’s always important to fully assess your options to ensure that the dog is the right fit for your family.

If you do this, then you are sure to have a furry friend that will make a permanent mark in your life!
